Parents

Role in ethical development in youth?

Violent content is something that every parent thinks about and how exposure to it will affect their children and their children’s “moral character”.

The issue comes in the variety and range of different parenting styles. Theres a population of parents that deem it ok for children to consume more and more violent content, with a disclaimer or otherwise and say that it does not affect their children, and some parents take a more “no tolerance” approach, fearing that any exposure may affect how their child thinks about shocking and violent behaviors. Some parents even go as far as ignoring age warnings and guidelines for viewing because they want their children to view whatever materials they want. Are the parents in the wrong for allowing their children to consume shocking and violent materials? Just because something is available to watch, does a parent have the right (or moral responsibility) to allow their children to watch it?
